I’m the only person in the world, and,or on Oppo that thinks the ‘71-73 Mustangs look better than the ‘65-66 Mustangs.
The first old Mustang I want when I have monies will be a ‘71-73 Mach 1, because ‘67-68 cars are the most expensive of the 1st gens.

Counterpoint: I’m the only Oppo who thinks the Mustang II is the best looking Mustang.

False. That Mach 1 you posted is one of my favorite Mustangs of all time.

Yes. Yes you are.
But I would take one if given a manual one. I think they look great in Cobra form.

The one you posted is better looking than the original Falcon-based car. You are not alone.

1970 was the best year, but 71-73 was definitely not better than anything previous.

The Mustang II is an affront to man and God (or whatever gods you do or do not believe in). Sentence? The crusher.

Very different design language from different eras. I happen to like both.

My personal favorite Mustangs. Dream Mustang is a ‘71 Boss 351.

You know, I used to hate the big-body cars, but I’ve come around. The fastbacks are great.

These are one of a few big-body cars I actually like. I even like the coupe versions as well.

I actually like the ‘71-’73 Mach 1 more than any other Mustang, mostly because it looks very un-Mustang-like.

That’s an interesting suggestion. How does it look un-Mustang-like?

I don’t really care for the Grandes or the vinyl roof, but the coupe can definitely be made to look tough. The Mach 1 or Boss 351 is the one for me though. My first car was very nearly a red ‘72 coupe with a 302. I was willing to look past the fact that I didn’t like the way it looked at the time, because it was a V8 Mustang and that’s all I really cared about. It was $700, but I bought a rusty $600 BMW instead. I’m only now getting back into Fords.

its not that they look bad. they just had no run to them. 150 horse 302? they all got cut up too, for the front suspension. and they look like a pinto.

The 71 - 73's were just hideous. They had a 1" longer wheelbase but were 12" longer overall. The 64 - 66 had a nice proportion to them.
I’m not big on Fords but wouldn’t mind having a 64 - 66. If I got a free 71 - 73 I’d give it to you and hope it would cure you of that automotive taste issue.

It’s a very easy, economical swap for older Mustangs and hot rods.

No. I’m under orders from my girlfriend to discard my dreams of early to late 60s Mustangs and find an acceptable, manual, black Mach 1. I dunno that I will but her opinion has been made known.

Note for posterity: Wifey (of 20 years) had a medium aqua blue 1973 model; something like below.
She despised the color. I see it as it’s only redeeming quality.

68 is better than 67 because of the side flank air scoop styling, but 66 289 GT fastbacks are awfully nice...

This may not make much sense, but to me, comparing the ‘71-’73 to the ‘65-’66 is like comparing apples to oranges. I think because the styling is just so different. I’m with you, I absolutely love the ‘71-’73 Mach 1 more than almost every other Mustang.
There was one pictured in the commemorative book that (back in the day) came with my ‘99 “35th Anniversary” Mustang that was blue w/black accents and good lord I still want that bad boy so much.
